Job Description
- Repair Heavy Duty vehicles (HDV) to ensure identification and elimination of breakdowns.
- Perform routine check on HDV for proper performance and inspect vehicles to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Test repaired vehicles for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications.
- Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on vehicles.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Section Head, HDV from time to time.
- Conduct regular inspections of trucks to identify any issues or maintenance needs.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting parts.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine the best course of action for repair.
- Repair or replace faulty components using hand and power tools.
- Test repaired trucks to ensure proper functioning and performance.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Follow safety protocols and guidelines at all times.
- Stay updated with industry trends and advancements in mechanical technology.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on trucks and commercial vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, electrical systems, and air conditioning.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using specialized diagnostic tools and software.
- Conduct thorough inspections of vehicles to identify potential issues and recommend preventive maintenance.
- Replace worn or faulty parts, including engines, tires, brakes, and belts, as needed.
- Keep accurate records of all maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle.
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, and other routine maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues, including wiring and battery problems.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards for maintenance practices.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
- Provide technical support and guidance to less experienced team members.
- Assist with road calls for on-site repairs when necessary.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of truck technology and mechanical advancements.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a truck mechanic or diesel mechanic.
- Certification in automotive/diesel mechanics (e.g., ASE certification) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems in trucks and heavy vehicles.
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Good communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
- Physical stamina to perform the duties required, including lifting heavy parts and working in various weather conditions.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
